Hundreds of thousands of wads of toilet paper are being used as period products in Aotearoa today.

Our vision? Intergenerational menstrual equity for Aotearoa.

How we're helping to make that happen.

Our mission is to champion menstrual literacy by providing accessible resources and collaborating for change. Here's what the path to intergenerational menstrual equity for Aotearoa looks like.

01. Conversation

The first step on the pathway to menstrual equity - talking about it. At The Period Place, we create safe online and in-person spaces for open, stigma-free conversations. We create stigma-busting campaigns with the biggest Kiwi brands, advocate for everyone who gets a period and engage with Government to tackle the many layers of menstrual inequity.

02. Education

The second step - information when you need it.

We advocate for age-appropriate menstrual health education for every girl, woman, non-binary and trans person at every stage of their life, so they are fully informed about what's happening to their body. We believe everyone should be educated on menstrual health, whether they get a period or not.

03. Access

What should be the last step in the pathway to menstrual equity - period products.  Unfortunately for many, this is still the first part of the journey they engage with, and for hundreds of thousands of Kiwis, they have extremely limited or no access to products at all. Through our nationwide programme, we donate millions of pads, tampons, liners, menstrual cups, reusable pads and period underwear to people who bloody need them.

Our shop.

We've found some excellent resources to support your menstrual health journey, whether you're a young person starting out or a parent/guardian helping a preteen learn.

These books offer comprehensive and informative guidance on menstruation, dispelling myths and providing accurate information in a supportive and empowering manner. They're a valuable addition to any individual or family's library.

Get involved.

The Period Place is funded through a combination of generous grants and awesome people who donate to us. While you see us doing lots of advocacy and giving advice at high levels, we receive no Government funding.
